The Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, execution, and successful delivery of complex projects. This position provides strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of project activities, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, quality, and customer expectations. The Project Manager leads cross-functional teams, coordinates internal and external stakeholders, monitors project performance and financial results, and proactively addresses risks, issues, and changes to ensure the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards. 

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for successfully achieving project deliverables, including scope, cost, quality, delivery and financial objectives.
  2. Reports key project deliverables to Executive Management, including key project metrics on a monthly basis.
  3. Hands-on management of the project on a daily basis.
  4. Identifies project risk, develops mitigation plans with operations management and works to achieve project deliverables.
  5. Assists sales management in developing marketing and sales proposals.  
  6. Makes client presentations, as required.
  7. Establishes project objectives in terms of project requirements, schedule, and budget from discussions with applications department, account manager, operations and supply chain personnel and the customer.
  8. Participates in project estimating sessions, as required.
  9. Serves as the “voice of the customer” inside of the Company related to the project.
  10. Keeps clients informed of project status on a regular basis.
  11. Maintains an appropriate awareness with the project team for any established project confidentiality.
  12. Keeps record of project activities through the use of the project management electronic file system, utilizing the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  13. Monitors project cost versus established estimate; make customer, management, and salesman aware of potential cost deviations and assist in formulating corrective action, as required.
  14. Through project monitoring and client contact, identifies and maintains a log of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  15. Provides direction to assigned personnel in concept, design, detailing, or other project phases, including developing and/or approving solutions to specific problems.  
  16. Organizes and participates in design reviews.
  17. Monitors project during fabrication, assembly, debug and installation of equipment, and approve modifications and substitution of materials, as required.
  18. Schedules and participates in the safety review of fabricated equipment prior to tear down.
  19. Coordinates project activities within the company to ensure that all aspects of the project are brought to a successful conclusion. 
  20. Interfaces with other company departments and customer representatives for the purpose of establishing project requirements, defining direction, and instilling confidence in customers with company capabilities with regard to project implementation.
  21. Communicates project activities between management, personnel, and customer representatives to ensure the project direction is being maintained.
  22. Gauges project status with regard to costs and schedule by keeping management and personnel informed of deviations that should be addressed with the customer.
  23. Provides direction and support in completing the design, detail, and engineering efforts associated with the assigned project.
  24. Stays current and participates in company-sponsored opportunities concerning technological developments, design practices, and manufacturing processes.
  25. Maintains and delivers a “lessons learned” log as the project progresses to ensure successive projects benefit from the most recent project experience.
  26. May direct and train individuals from the same and other classifications.
  27. Effectively interact with managers, supervisors, and hourly team members across all department.
  28. Additional hours as necessary to meet business needs. 
  29. Travel as needed and required.
  30. Additional duties as needed and assigned.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Management/Business Administration or equivalent work experience and technical capability.
  2. A minimum of 5-15 years with relevant industrial Project Management experience.
  3. Excellent communications and inter-personal skills.
  4. Strong forward planning skills – anticipates requirements, potential challenges and bottlenecks that could impact project deliverables and develops contingency plans.
  5. Makes fact-based decisions.
  6. Read and interpret part prints, tool drawings, and technical instructions and descriptions.
  7. Comfortable with industrial engineering concepts, able to connect cause and effect, has a passion for solving root cause.

Preferred:

  1. Demonstrated ability to engage and build rapport with stakeholders from entry level to executive leadership. 
  2. Experience using Microsoft Project and Excel.
  3. Background with hydraulic presses and/or rotary dryers or other industrial products.
